Peter-Bram 't Hoen was trained as a biochemist and pharmacochemist at the Vrije Universiteit, after which he did a Ph.D. at the Leiden / Amsterdam Center for Drug Research in the field of molecular toxicology. Regulation of gene expression has been a connecting theme in his previous and present research projects. In his current position, he is working on the unravelling of the molecular mechanisms behind neuromuscular disorders, such as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. For this, he is applying high-throughput techniques such as microarrays and mass spectrometry-based proteomics, thereby focussing on data analysis and integration, aided by text mining technology. Dr 't Hoen is heading a group of two post-docs, two Ph.D. students, and one technician. He is funded by NWO (Dutch organisation for scientific research) and has grants from the Prinses Beatrix Fonds, the Duchenne Parent Project, the European Union, the Center for Biomedical Genetics, and the ministry of Economic affairs.
