Kristina Hettne was born in Sweden, March 1978. She obtained her MSc degree in Computer Science from University of Skovde, Sweden, in 2003. As a final year project she used data mining techniques to analyze gene expression data from donors with the Metabolic Syndrome, resulting in the thesis Using nuclear receptor interactions as biomarkers for metabolic syndrome. The work was carried out at the Bioinformatics department at AstraZeneca R&D, Molndal, Sweden.
In 2004 she started working as a Scientist at the Safety Assessment department at AstraZeneca R&D Molndal, Sweden, where she was mainly involved in the European Union funded Network of Excellence INFOBIOMED. INFOBIOMED aims at enforcing European Biomedical Informatics as an integrative discipline with a a view on supporting individualized healthcare.
In August 2006 she started as a PhD student within the biosemantics group. Her research is aimed at the development of class prediction tools for toxicological classification, and the identification of molecular and genetic pathways linking expression profiles and specific toxic phenotypes. The project is a collaboration between the department of Health Risk Analysis & Toxicology at Maastricht University and the department of Medical Informatics at Erasmus MC.
